Who is eligible to apply for KentMUN?
Our conference is open and delighted to accept university students from around the world to our conference, as everyone has something to bring to KentMUN! High school/sixth form students aged 16 or 17 are also welcome to apply, but in accordance with the law, these students will be prohibited from consuming alcohol.
What committees are on offer at KentMUN?
Our flagship committee is the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) committee, but our other committees include the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and a historical Crisis committee. You can find out much more about these committees by clicking this link: (insert link to committees).
Do I need MUN experience to participate?
Nope! All you need to participate is to learn and understand the Rules of Procedure, and to know your country’s position on the issue being discussed. Everything else, you should pick up at the conference fairly quickly, learning from the chairs, experienced delegates, and other beginning delegates taking a brave step into a new experience.
Is it possible for KentMUN to help subsidise transport to the conference?
Unfortunately, our conference cannot provide financial assistance for transport to KentMUN, although our secretariat all live locally, and so would be happy to recommend cost-effective ways of getting to Canterbury.
Can KentMUN help me to organise accommodation during my stay?
We do offer accommodation packs for staying at hotels in the vicinity of Canterbury, and the rooms included into these are in some of the best locations in the city. We certainly recommend that you purchase one of these when they become available, but you are more than welcome to organise your own accommodation relating to your individual needs.
Do we have to stay at the recognised conference hotels?
No, but we do recommend purchasing an accommodation pack to save on the hassle of booking a room. If you wish to stay at an alternative hotel, that is absolutely fine.
Is there a dress code during the conference?
Yes, and this will apply to all attendees including delegates, chairs, and conference staff during committee sessions, as well as during both the opening and closing ceremonies. The dress code is based on Western business attire, meaning suits for men and business dress for women, though national dresses are welcome. Outside these events, apparel is entirely at the individual’s discretion, though we ask kindly that conference attendees dress respectfully during the entirety of the conference.
